Taxi price information in Finland: what changed in September 2026?
According to Traficom’s reform guide, from 1 September 2026 drivers must give passengers fare information verbally or in writing when requested, before the journey begins. The information must be easy to notice.
Ask what kind of price you are being given
Asking the cost is a useful start. Then establish whether the amount is an agreed fixed fare or an estimate based on a starting charge, distance and time. Check that it includes the particular service you need.
Why distance alone is not enough
The tariffs in our Tampere calculator charge for both distance and journey time. The same distance with a different duration can produce a different estimate. That is why the two sliders are separate.
A starting charge can matter more on a short ride, while differences in distance and minute rates accumulate on longer journeys. A published minimum fare can also change the result for a short trip.
Compare like-for-like bookings
Ask whether advance booking and any airport pickup charge are included. If you need an extra stop or a larger vehicle, ask for that service to be priced specifically. A standard-car calculation is not automatically comparable with a different booking.
